Orthodontics and Traditional Braces
It surprises many people to learn how common crooked and misaligned teeth are. Just because these issues are fairly common, doesn’t mean that patients should just tolerate them. Orthodontic treatment is incredibly important. Correcting these issues allows patients to eat, speak, and smile with ease, instead of struggling as they might otherwise. Your doctor can provide treatment with traditional braces, giving you a beautiful, confident new smile.
What Exactly Are Braces?
Braces are probably the most well-known of orthodontic treatments. Composed of metal brackets connected by wires, these pieces work to support your teeth while shifting them into their proper positions. With this treatment, small and severe alignment issues can be successfully straightened.
Treatable Conditions
Conditions that traditional braces have long been used to treat include:
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
- Open Bite
- Teeth Crowding
- Gaps Between Teeth
- Protrusion
Why Treat These Issues?
It is important that you do not ignore orthodontic issues for many reasons. For instance, ignoring misaligned teeth is likely to cause jaw pain throughout childhood and into adulthood. Misaligned teeth can also be difficult to clean properly, as these teeth will be difficult to brush and floss. This leaves decay-causing plaque on your teeth.
Using traditional braces, we can correct these issues and ensure you a lifetime of comfort and defendable teeth.
The Process at Park Dental
In order to be fit for braces, you must attend your consultation at one of our Park Dental locations. During this meeting, Dr. Hughes or Dr. Mojdami will carefully examine your oral health, take note of your condition and plan out the exact movements your teeth need to make to end up in their perfect positions.
On your next visit, the braces will be connected to your teeth. For this procedure, brackets are attached to each tooth, with a wire used to bridge each one. Coloured or clear bands are then used to secure the wire to the brackets.
Occasionally you will need to return to our office to have the wires tightened. These visits are necessary until your teeth are fully straightened and any other issues have been addressed. In the final stages, the treatment will be removed and you will be given a retainer to ensure that your teeth do not return to their original positions.
